Born 1930 in Jinling, Nanjing, Jin Jingmai (金敬邁) enlisted in the People's Liberation Army in Wuhan in June 1949, and was selected to join the Warrior Performance Troupe of Guangzhou Military Region (廣州軍區戰士話劇團). He was a creative group member of the military region’s political department. In 1968, he was persecuted and incarcerated in Qincheng prison (秦城監獄) for seven years; in 1975, he was sent to toil on a farm; in 1978, he was politically rehabilitated and became a professional writer for the Cultural Department of the Guangzhou Military Region. He began publishing his works in 1958, and had distributed 30,000,000 copies of his long novel Ou Yang Hai zhi Ge (The Song of Ouyang Hai) (歐陽海之歌) which has also been translated into various languages for overseas distribution.
