Professor Li Zhitan (李之檀)

Born 1933 in Beijing, Professor Li Zhitan (李之檀) graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (中央美術學院) in 1955. He was a research fellow at the National Museum of Chinese History (中國歷史博物館), and has over 40 years of experience in museum exhibit design and research. He has written a number of works including Ban Hua Shi (History of Woodblock Prints) for the eight-volume Zhongguo Mei Shu Tong Shi (A General History of Chinese Art) (中國美術通史) edited by Wang Bomin (王伯敏); the Ming Dai Juan “Ban Hua Shi” (History of Woodblock Prints for the Ming Dynasty) of the 12-volume Zhongguo Mei Shu Shi (History of Chinese Art) (中國美術史) edited by Wang Chaowen (王朝聞); the sections of Cheng Shi Mo Yuan (Cheng's Garden of Ink Block Designs) (程氏墨苑), Yuan Qu Xuan Tu (Illustrations of Selected Yuan Theater Plays) (元曲選圖) and Shui Lu Dao Chang Shen Gui Tu Xiang (Illustrations of Gods and Ghosts in Water and on Land for the Rite of Deliverance) (水陸道場神鬼圖像) in the Zhongguo Gu Dai Ban Hua Cong Kan, Er Bian (A Compilation of Ancient Chinese Woodblock Prints Series, Second Edition) (中國古代版畫叢刊二編), and explanatory notes for the religious art prints in Zhongguo Mei Shu Quan Ji ‧ Hui Hua Bian Di 20 Ce ‧ Ban Hua (The Complete Book of Chinese Art · Volume 20: Drawing · Woodblock Prints) (中國美術全集·繪畫篇第20冊‧版畫).
