Professor Geng Yunzhi (耿雲志)

Born December 1938 in Haicheng County (海城縣), Liaoning Province, Professor Di Yunzhi  (耿雲志) graduated from the Department of Philosophy at Liaoning University (遼寧大學哲學系) in 1964, then started working for the Institute of Modern History (近代史研究所) of the Philosophy and Social Sciences Department (predecessor of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (中國科學院哲學社會科學部). He is currently an academic division member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, a research fellow at the Institute of Modern History, president of the Society of Chinese Modern Culture (中國現代文化學會), director of the China Hu Shi Research Society (胡適研究會會長) and China’s Research Center for Modern Chinese Ideology (中國近代思想研究中心), as well as a council member of the Sun Yat-Sen Foundation (孫中山基金會). He is a veteran researcher on the modern history of Chinese politics, history of culture and intellectual history in particular.

 

Geng Yunzhi’s works include the first volume of the Zhong Hua Min Guo Shi (History of the Republic of China) (中華民國史) (co-authored), Hu Shi Yan Jiu Lun Gao (Hu Shih: Research Drafts) (胡適研究論稿), Hu Shi Nian Pu (A Chronicle of Hu Shi's Life) (胡適年譜), Hu Shi Xin Lun (New Theory for Hu Shi) (胡適新論) and Xi Fang Min Zhu zai Jin Dai Zhongguo (Western Democracy in Modern China) (西方民主在近代中國) (co-authored). He has received numerous national awards and awards from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. In addition, he edited several major reference works including the Zhong Hua Wen Hua Ci Dian (Dictionary of Chinese Culture) (中華文化辭典), Hu Shi Yi Gao ji Mi Zang Shu Xin (Posthumous Manuscript and Secret Letters from Hu Shi) (胡適遺稿及秘藏書信) and Hu Shi Shu Xin Ji (A Collection of Letters by Hu Shi) (胡適書信集).
